DoC to cut 20 jobs

12:33 pm on 31 January 2011

The Department of Conservation (DoC) is cutting 20 finance jobs in the latest phase of restructuring.

DoC says it reviewed 65 finance positions and plans to centralise the processing of administrative positions in Wellington.

The department has been reviewing its back-office functions for 18 months, and says it has already saved about $10 million.

DoC spokesperson Rory Newsam says no front-line conservation work will suffer.

Mr Newsam says the department is working on making greater use of online systems and cutting down on double-ups between its regional and national offices.

The cuts will take place in the middle of the year, he says.
