Bones dug up on the foreshore of Lake Wakatipu at Kingson are not human, police have confirmed.
There was speculation that the remains were those of Amber-Lee Cruickshank, a two-and-a-half year old girl who went missing in 1992.
Detective Inspector Steve McGregor says the remains are definitely not human and are possibly from a sheep.
