9:14 am on 2 February 2011

A man accused of trying to kill his wife in Auckland after murdering his first wife has gone on trial in Scotland.

Malcolm Webster, 51, is accused of inducing the women to write out wills in his favour, before causing car accidents.

His first wife died in a burning car in 1994 in Scotland.

He is accused of drugging his second wife, Felicity Drumm, in Auckland while she was pregnant and then crashing their car.

She survived and the couple were still married when he is alleged to have tried to wed a third woman.

New Zealand witnesses are among the 400 people expected to give evidence during a four-month trial in Glasgow.
