Police and Customs seized 30.4 kilograms of methamphetamine last year, with an estimated street value of $30 million.

Police Minister Judith Collins says this is a 46% increase on 2009, when 20 kilograms of the drug was seized.

She says new powers have enabled police to intercept gang communications and seize property from criminals.

Customs Minister Maurice Williamson, says Customs officers seized just under 1 tonne of ephedrine and pseudoephedrine, the main precursors used to make methamphetamine.
