Shipping company probe over grounding

7:59 pm on 3 February 2011

A shipping company is investigating what caused one of its vessels to run aground in Manukau Harbour on Thursday morning.

The Spirit of Resolution, operated by Pacifica Shipping, ran aground on soft mud as it tried to cross the shallow harbour about 10am.

The company believes an electrical fault is to blame.

It says the vessel was refloated and is now just inside the harbour entrance.

Auckland's harbourmaster says the ship will try to cross the harbour again on the high tide at 11pm.
