The Police Association says one in every seven officers was threatened with a firearm last year.

The union bases the figure on a survey of officers on frontline general duties.

It says the 15% reporting a firearm threat compares to 11% two years ago.

Association president Greg O'Connor told Morning Report that more criminals are carrying guns to protect themselves from other criminals.
