January road toll lowest on record

Twenty-seven people were killed in road crashes last month, the lowest for any January on record. Last year's total was 38.

Superintendent Paula Rose says the lower toll may have been partly the result of higher petrol prices, which have discouraged travel.

But she hopes it was mainly due to drivers making 'good choices' and intensive work by police and other agencies to promote road safety.
