March in Christchurch to support Egyptian people

5:02 pm on 5 February 2011

Marchers in Christchurch have joined the huge crowds of protesters in Egypt, calling for the country's president of 30 years to step down.

About 150 people marched through Christchurch's city centre on Saturday afternoon.

Demonstrators of several nationalities marched in support of the Egyptian people.

While many of the Egyptians among them called for president, Hosni Mubarak, to resign now, others said they would accept him remaining in power until September if it means peace returns to Egypt immediately.

They say they're worried about their families in Egypt and want their lives to return to normal as quickly as possible.
