Some people in Invercargill are upset their city did not host any Waitangi Day celebrations this year.
The city usually holds a touch rugby game and festivities, but this year neither the council, nor the iwi organised any events.
Te Tomairangi marae kaumatua Benjamin Blair says the discovery that no one had organised anything, was a surprise to many.
Mr Blair believes it may have been a case of each group thinking another had plans.
He says a number of iwi have indicated they may take on the role of organising Waitangi Day next year.
