It could be up to a fortnight before two young women suffering from suspected food poisoning in Thailand are able to return home.
Wellington accountant Sarah Carter, 23, died on Sunday after eating what is believed to be a seaweed delicacy.
Two other women, Emma Langlands, 23, from Hamilton and Amanda Eliason, 24, remain in hospital.
The three friends had been travelling together through South-East Asia and were in the northern Thai city of Chiang Mai when they fell ill.
Ms Langlands had the mildest symptoms and is now in a general ward at Chiang Mai Ram Hospita, and reported to be eating.
Ms Eliason is still in intensive care after emergency heart surgery.
Her mother Kay Eliason says she is recovering well but will remain in hospital until she is well enough to travel.
She says doctors have taken blood samples from the three friends but still do not know what caused their illness, although it is thought it could have been a seaweed delicacy.
