Hearing loss funding cuts criticised by audiologists

9:57 am on 9 February 2011

Audiologists say they are angry the Accident Compensation Corporation is reducing its funding of audiology appointments and hearing aids.

ACC clients with hearing loss were entitled to full funding until the end of last year, when it became a requirement that they pay a share of the costs involved.

Some claimants say the ruling came as a shock but ACC director of clinical services Kevin Morris says it is a fair change.

He says often people do not complain about hearing loss until many years after they have retired.

However he says in many cases the audiogram taken when they were working is still available and can be compared to present results.
