Hope for domino democracy in Arab world

7:01 am on 13 February 2011

The Global Peace and Justice group in Auckland says it hopes the events in Egypt will inspire a domino effect for democracy right throughout the Arab world.

John Minto was at Aotea Square celebrating with Auckland's Egyptian community on Saturday after the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak.

He says Egypt may be the first Arab country to be truly liberated and it's wonderful that democracy has the chance to take flower.

While it's only the first step, and there is a long way to go in Egypt, he says it will give great heart, particularly to the Palestinian people.
