Warning illegal rugby ticket buyers can be tracked down

Online auction site Trade Me is warning anyone who tries to sell 2011 Rugby World Cup tickets illegally that they can and will be tracked down.

Two tickets were sold on the auction website on Monday for $NZ150 more than their face value after an allocation of semifinal and final tickets.

Trade Me says it has spoken to the buyer and seller in the auction and has contacted Rugby New Zealand.

It says people need to be aware of restrictions imposed under the Major Events Management Act and anyone who uses Trade Me leaves a digital footprint behind and can be found easily.

Rugby New Zealand says anyone who buys tickets through an online auction risks having them cancelled and being turned away at the game.

The semifinals will be played at Auckland's Eden Park on 15 and 16 October. The final will also be played at the ground on 23 October.
