Waitaki's MP says the Minister of Transport has given an assurance a project to build new bridges in the district will be fast-tracked.
The rural community of Hakataramea remains cut off from its local service centre Kurow after damage to a pile from high river flows last week closed two bridges on State Highway 82.
Jacqui Dean met with Transport Minister Steven Joyce and local council representatives on Tuesday and says the Transport Agency will now be aware of the project's urgency.
Ms Dean says it will still be a matter of months before funding can be guaranteed for new bridges.
The agency says a decision on reopening the existing bridges to traffic will be made after strength testing on Thursday.
