Auckland rail commuters to pay more from March

Auckland rail commuters will soon have to pay more for tickets because the cost of running the network has gone up by $8 million.

Auckland Transport finished its annual review of bus, ferry and train fares on Friday.

Chief executive David Warburton says ticket price rises ranging range from 10cents for a one-stage trip to 50c for an eight-stage will take effect from 13 March.

He says maximum ferry and bus prices will remain at current levels, though some ferry fares beneath the maximum price may go up.

Mr Warburton says the council organisation is facing an $8 million cost increase associated with providing more frequent train services and upgrading infrastructure.
