Wellington police are asking for information about dive gear found floating about a kilometre offshore from Ohau Point, south of Makara Beach on Wellington's south coast.
A black Mares brand buoyancy compensator device, which has blue specks on it, was found along with a blue air tank.
The gear has an Island Bay Divers sticker attached to it.
It was found on Saturday evening.
