A man is in Gisborne hospital with multiple stab wounds after he and two women were attacked in the city early on Sunday.
Police say the three were on their way home from a reggae concert when set upon by a group of young people in Stanley Road at about 1.30am.
One of the women has been treated and discharged; the second did not require treatment.
The man, in his mid-20s, is in a stable condition and his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Police say they are following solid lines of inquiry.
