Police in Wellington, investigating a death in the suburb of Johnsonville, say they have found what they call items of interest.
Matthew Hall, who was 35, was attacked three weeks ago while in his bed.
Investigators say a search team spent much of the weekend looking for a weapon in the surrounding neighbourhood.
They will not elaborate on what was found, other than to say it provides a positive line of inquiry.
Bad weather hampered some of the search, so the police will return to the area.
They are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
