A group promoting annual flu injections says many people at risk of getting sick are still not getting vaccinated.
The National Influenza Strategy Group on Tuesday launched the start of this year's vaccination season.
The 2011 seasonal influenza vaccine is now available at surgeries. It protects against three types of flu, including swine flu, which is expected to be the predominant virus this season.
The group is advising that people vaccinated last year should get another injection as immunity lessons over time.
Strategy group chair Michelle Kapinga says more than 1 million people had vaccinations last year but some people do not realise how sick influenza can make them or that they are at risk.
Ms Kapinga says the subsidised season runs from now until the end of July.
