Ngati Whatua 'won't lie down like a flat fish'

A Ngati Whatua leader says the iwi will fight an Environment Court decision giving the go-ahead for a tidal power plant on the Kaipara Harbour.

Naida Glavish says she will ask Conservation Minister Kate Wilkinson to ignore the court's decision and refuse her consent for the project.

Ms Glavish told Waatea News the court's decision to cut back Crest Energy's application from 20 turbines to three shows that mana whenua concerns have substance.

She says the iwi won't take its cue from some of the harbour's most populous residents. "We will not lie down like a flat fish and just say nothing."
