Canterbury wants NPC rearranged, over quake

9:18 pm on 18 March 2011

The New Zealand Rugby Union says Canterbury's request for the national provincial championship to be redrawn is being discussed with other unions.

Chief executive Steve Tew says the World Cup games, if they had gone ahead in Christchurch, would have limited Canterbury's access to AMI stadium anyway.

But with repairs from last month's earthquake now unlikely to be completed until February, Canterbury says there are no other grounds in Christchurch suitable host an NPC game.

Mr Tew says there are some alternatives but they have some challenges, especially with lights and broadcasting facilities.

There are implications for other unions too and MrTew says they'll be discussed over the next week or so.
