Joint Forces commander named

A new officer has been appointed to head the military's Joint Forces.

Brigadier David Gawn takes over from Air Vice Marshal Peter Stockwell, who has been promoted to Chief of Air Force.

Brigadier Gawn was the first commanding officer when New Zealand deployed a company in Bosnia in 1994.

In 2000, he commanded a battalion group in East Timor.

He will be promoted to major general in his new role.
