The Fire Service in Wellington says an hour of heavy rain on Sunday caused flooding in parts of Porirua, Titahi Bay and Tawa.
The MetService says about 39.2 millimetres of rain fell in northern parts of the Wellington region between 12pm and 1pm.
About 40 streets, including Mungavin Avenue and Whitehouse Road, were affected by flooding.
A fire officer says he saw two vehicles floating in water.
