Hacker threat yet to manifest on website

3:00 pm on 29 March 2011

The Department of Internal Affairs says its website is functioning as usual, despite a hacker group's threat to start attacking it on Tuesday morning.

In a video posted online in February, the group, known as Anonymous, said it would attack the department's website on 29 March.

The department provides web-filtering software to internet service providers for the purpose of blocking child pornography, and Anonymous is against all forms of filtering.

Technology commentator Colin Jackson says that what was being threatened was a denial of service attack, which means lots of computers will send information all at once, bombarding the website.
