Police have opposed diversion for a man accused of looting in Christchurch.
Cornelius Arie Smith-Voorkamp was arrested for stealing two lightbulbs and a light fitting shortly after the February earthquake.
His lawyer, Simon Buckingham, says his client suffers from Asperger's syndrome and the thefts arose from that.
Mr Smith-Voorkamp, 25, who is on bail, appeared in the Christchurch District Court at Rangiora on Tuesday.
Mr Buckingham says police opposed diversion and the case has been adjourned until 10 May.
