New high-performance sports body formed

6:01 pm on 30 March 2011

A new high-performance sports entity is being created by merging SPARC's high-performance unit and the two New Zealand Academies of Sport.

The new body will be responsible for allocating $60 million worth of high-performance funding.

The chair of SPARC's high-performance board, Paul Collins, says the merger will provide a more focused approach, linking a network of world-class facilities currently being developed around the country, and take high-performance sport in New Zealand to a new level.

The final strucure of the new organisation, what it will be called and whom it will report to is expected to be announced in July.
