The Department of Corrections says officers at Hawke's Bay prison recently found drugs on a teenage visitor.

Acting prison manager Yvonne Fuller, says officers apprehended a woman accompanied by a boy aged 14, during a random search of vehicles and visitors.

She says a package with black tape around it, was found in the boy's left shoe during the search.

The package contained 21 grams of cannabis leaf.

Ms Fuller says the officers contacted the police in Hastings who arrested the youth.

She says the woman has been banned from entering the prison for 12 months.
