Accused students expelled

Two girls from Mt Albert Grammar accused of assaulting shoppers at an Auckland mall have been expelled by the board of trustees.

Police are investigating two separate attacks at Westfield St Lukes last month.

Since the matter came to light, the students, a 13-year old and a 14-year-old, have been suspended. At a meeting on Monday the board voted to expel them.

Because the girls are under the age of 16, it is the responsibility of the principal, Dale Burden, to find them another school to attend. Mr Burden concedes that may prove difficult.

The students are entitled to appeal against the decision.
