Warning DNA testing kit sent via mail a scam

The Commerce Commission says a DNA testing kit being sent through the mail is a scam.

In January, Australia's Department of Commerce issued a warning about the scam and the same kind of kit has now turned up in New Zealand.

Commission spokesperson Graham Gill says people are asked to send a swab of DNA to test health, diet, intellect and how to live longer.

However, he says DNA testing does not determine these things.

The scam also asks for money and credit card details.

Mr Gill says the commission can not investigate because the scam started overseas.
