Whanganui council forced to shut down water main

4:43 pm on 8 April 2011

There has been an emergency shutdown of a water main in Whanganui on Friday.

District councillor Ray Stevens says a major leak in the high-pressure main in the seaside suburb of Castlecliff has forced the council to shut the mains down.

Mr Stevens says 40 houses are temporarily without water and the rest of the suburb and industrial area will have low pressure.

Repairs are underway and should be completed on Friday night, he says.
