Enough money raised for music students to tour overseas

A Christchurch school has raised enough money to send its music students to Europe for a series of concerts.

The group of about 70 students and teachers from Linwood College leave on Saturday after raising about $70,000 - despite setbacks from the earthquakes since September.

The school says the students have shown great determination to raise enough money from sponsors and the community, and their parents have increased their contributions.

Head of music Tony Ryan says the group will perform in a number of countries - including two concerts in Christchurch in England.

Mr Ryan says Westminster Abbey has been added to the performing schedule of the jazz and orchestra students on Anzac Day.
