Machete gang linked to early-morning robberies

4:29 am on 10 April 2011

A gang armed with machetes is thought to be responsible for four separate robberies in Auckland early on Saturday.

They happened between 3am and 5.30am in Balmoral, Mission Bay and Auckland's city centre.

The police say people were threatened with machetes, before being robbed. No-one was injured.

Police say it appears all four offences were committed by the same group.

Detective Sergeant Andy King says they are trying to identify three men and one woman, who are described as being Pakeha, aged in their late teens or early 20s.

They were dressed in dark coloured hooded sweatshirts, and the woman is believed to have blonde hair tied in a plait.

A maroon or purple-coloured sedan car was possibly used by the group.
