A Hawkes Bay hapu is seeking help to restore a small 19th century wharenui (meeting house).
Waatea News reports the whare was built in Havelock North by Te Teira Tiakitai, as a place hapu members could stay when they visited the town from Waimarama, 20km away on the coast.
Bayden Barber says it is a building with considerable history and a lot of character and the Historic Places Trust believes the building is restorable.
