A silent film made by American director John Ford has had its first screening in New Zealand since 1927.
Upstream lay in a garden shed in Hastings for almost 70 years. On Sunday, it was shown again in Havelock North.
The only known print in the world, it has been restored and digitised by the American Film Preservation Foundation.
The New Zealand Film Archive says Upstream is a piece of cinematic history and finding it in 1993 in a shed among hundreds of rusting film canisters, was amazing.
The Film Archive plans to screen it in Wellington later this year.
