Report into growing Maori language released

An independent review panel has suggested a reorganisation of the Maori language sector to help increase the use of Te Reo Maori in New Zealand.

The Government commissioned a review of the Maori language strategy and sector last year and the panel, Te Paepae Motuhake, released its report on Wednesday.

Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples says the report also suggests the Government needs to strengthen its focus on communities and families speaking Maori to their children.

But Dr Sharples says it will take some time to translate the report's advice into an integrated plan of action.
