Police are investigating a woman they say has been grooming Christchurch schoolboys using the social networking site Facebook.
Senior Sergeant John Robinson says the woman befriends the boys on Facebook with a fake profile and gives them money to pay for phones and SIM cards so they can contact her.
Mr Robinson says in some cases, the woman pretends to be dying to get sympathy from the boys.
He says police were alerted to the grooming by the boys' schools and are planning on interviewing several students on Friday.
The principal of Saint Thomas of Canterbury College, Christine O'Brien, says at least 30 students may have been targeted.
