5:43 am on 17 April 2011

Child, Youth & Family says it is working closely with the police after a woman was charged with trying to murder two children.

The woman and the children, aged five and seven, were taken to hospital on Saturday with suspected carbon monoxide poisoning.

They were found by police at a Riccarton address at about 1am.

The woman, 30, is due to appear in the Rangiora District Court on Monday.

She will face two charges of attempted murder.

Meanwhile, she is being held at Christchurch Central police station.

Child, Youth & Family says it is a terrible incident.

The agency says it was previously involved with the family four years ago. It says the children are safe and now with a family member.

Detective Sergeant Mark Keane says the children have recovered well.
