Police say a vicious attack led to the death of a Hastings man whose body was found in his home on Saturday night.
He was Douglas Bruce Apperley, 59, of Townsend Street in St Leonards.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange says a preliminary post mortem shows he had head injuries and was stabbed numerous times in the chest.
Police are continuing to examine the man's home where a number of items have been found that may have caused these injuries.
Anyone who saw Mr Apperley last week is urged to contact Hastings police.
