Easier access to KiwiSaver funds after quake

People affected by the February earthquake in Christchurch can now more easily make withdrawals from their KiwiSaver account.

Commerce Minister Simon Power says there was some concern that people would not be able to get money from their account under current rules where people have to show significant financial hardship.

Mr Power says the February earthquake is being added to the list of circumstances under which KiwiSaver funds can be withdrawn.

Any resident in Christchurch at the time of the quake on 22 February can apply if their property was destroyed or damaged, they lost their job as a result of the quake, or for any other quake-related costs.
