Trampers near inland Canterbury waterways are being warned that streams and rivers are likely to rise quickly after heavy rainfall on Friday.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected on the West Coast between Milford Sound and the Otira/Arthurs Pass area, MetService says.
It has forecast 100mm to 150mm of rain in the ranges which is expected to spill into Canterbury headwaters.
