The MetService says heavy rain and severe gale gusts will hit many parts of the North Island on Monday night and Tuesday.
Rain is forecast for Northland, Auckland, Coromandel peninsula, the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke's Bay.
Severe gales of 120km/h to 130km/h are likely in the eastern Bay of Plenty, over the central high country to Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu and the Kapiti Coast on Tuesday morning.
Driving conditions may be hazardous and people should watch for flooding, MetService warns.
