Police computer fault fixed

1:00 pm on 27 April 2011

A fault on the computer network at three police communication centres has been fixed.

The network problem forced staff working in the three centres that handle 111 emergency calls to use manual processing for about three hours on Tuesday afternoon.

The fault also affected 130 police stations and Police National Headquarters.

The acting national manager of police communications centres, Superintendent Kelvin Powell, says back-up procedures worked well and 111 calls were not affected by the outage.

He says the police will discuss the network failure with suppliers over the coming days.
