Severe gales and heavy rain have battered parts of the North Island since Tuesday, knocking out power to parts of the North Island.
Centralines says more than 200 Hawke's Bay residents, east of Waipukurau, have lost electricity connections because of heavy rain.
In coastal Taranaki and northern Manawatu, about 300 Powerco customers are without power after network problems on Tuesday.
The company says it had restored power to some people, only to have the supply disrupted again due to trees falling on power lines.
Unison says about 200 of its customers in the Taupo region remain without power after the town was blacked out on Tuesday afternoon.
In Christchurch, power has been restored to 12,000 households after a cable fault on Wednesday night.
The fault affected Orion customers in Spreydon, Summerfield, Cashmere, Beckenham and St Martins for about 90 minutes.
