Drop the raids case, Solicitor-General urged

Updated at 2:49 pm on 27 April 2011

Supporters of the 18 people charged in relation to the 2007 Urewera raids by police have asked the Solicitor-General to throw out the case before it is heard in the High Court in May.

The accused face an assortment of firearms charges stemming from a series of police raids in October 2007.

One of the accused's supporters, Jane Kelsey of Auckland University, says she has written to the Solicitor-General asking him to bring the episode to a close once and for all.

Professor Kelsey says she has the support of 150 prominent Maori, academics and social-justice campaigners.
