A Canterbury girl has died after falling from the back of a moving vehicle.
The ten-year-old was one of a number of children travelling on the back of a farm ute on Friday while the farmer was moving stock in Waiau, near Christchurch.
Canterbury Road Policing Manager Al Stewart says the incident could have been prevented and police are now investigating.
Mr Stewart says the fatality brings the number of road deaths in Canterbury in 2011 to eight, double that of this time last year.
