The second half of the big Lotto Powerball prize, worth $17.7 million, has at last been claimed.

The first half was claimed shortly after the draw on 9 April.

Two members of an Auckland family come forward with the other winning ticket on Friday.

Kate Richards from New Zealand Lotteries says the family had been on holiday for two weeks and only checked their ticket when they returned to Auckland.

Ms Richards told Checkpoint the Auckland woman wanted to give some money to charities, including the Christchurch earthquake appeal and some cancer related charities.

She said the "very humble" winner planned to keep on with her life as normal but with a lot of money in the bank to be able to help out people.
