Five cars were set alight in a Wellington suburb, in what police say appeared to be a random attack.
The vehicles were set alight on Sefton St and Anne St in Wadestown.
The Wellington Crime Squad says the damage to the vehicles is extensive and officers are appealing for witnesses.
They say those involved will have returned home smelling of burned rubber or plastic.
