Traffic disruption likely as roading project continues

Motorists in Northland should expect delays over the next few weeks as work begins on a major new intersection in Whangarei.

Work was beginning on Monday on the next stage of the State Highway 1 Kamo bypass, linking it to Western Hills Drive, one of the city's busiest roads.

The Transport Agency says it will take four weeks to create the new intersection, and traffic disruption is inevitable.

Temporary signals will be in place and the agency says drivers can help by following marked diversion routes on to Percy Street or Kamo Road, or avoiding the area at peak times.

Another major Whangarei roading project - the Speddings Road extension - is also nearly complete and, with the bypass, should improve traffic flows through the city.
