The Council of Trade Unions has launched a new union aimed at private sector employees who are not represented in their work place.
The CTU says workers will be able to join 'Together' for $1 per week to gain access to advice from the council and its affiliated unions.
The union aims to attract 50,000 members over the next five years and is targetting non-unionised workplaces, casual workers and small business employees.
CTU president Helen Kelly says the majority of New Zealanders work in places where there is no union representation.
The union has been planned for some time but was delayed by national events, she says.
