A body has been discovered in a burning car in the Waitarere beach forest, north of Levin in Horowhenua.
Police say they received reports of smoke coming from the forest at 7.20am on Wednesday.
The burning car was found on a track in the forest and the body is believed to be that of a man.
Police say the death is being treated as unexplained and it is too early yet to say whether it can be considered suspicious.
